Captain a military rank used in MACOs and Federation Marines, immediately superior to first lieutenant and subordinate to major. A captain commands a company, about 100-300 soldiers. MACO captains did not appear in Star Trek: Enterprise to avoid audience confusion over rank names. This rank is also used in the Bajoran Militia. (DS9) The rank is equivalent to the Starfleet rank of lieutenant, colonel in the Federation Starfighter Corps, and the Romulan and pre-Federation Vulcan rank of lieutenant.
