The 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season was a above average season, with 16 storms and 9 Hurricanes, with four of those becoming major Hurricanes (Category 3 or above). The most destructive storm was Hurricane Helene, which caused 211 fatalities, and 13.4 Billion dollars in damages when it slammed into Southern Florida as a Category 4 monster. The season was less active than expected, due to the previous season setting the bar so high. However, it was above average like the previous season. The season was far less destructive than the previous season, with only one storm going above 1 Billion dollars in damages. It was also less deadly, but it was still deadly nevertheless.
