The DSi and DSi XL version is basically the same software, though color has now been included. Interestingly, when someone contacts someone else using a Nintendo DSi and an original Nintendo DS or DS Lite, the player using the Nintendo DSi can still send color images to those on the Nintendo DS or DS Lite. PictoChat was developed by Redmond, Washington based Nintendo Software Technology. The application was not included with the Nintendo 3DS. Instead it was replaced with a similar program called Swapnote.
