National Museums Liverpool, Liverpool, England, is hosted in eight different venues and was previously known as the National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside. It was originally founded in 1851. National Museums Liverpool is the only regional National Museums Service in the UK. In 1980, the collection comprised over one million items. Not all the venues are in Liverpool; the Lady Lever Art Gallery, for example, is in Wirral.
