Jimmy McGovern (born 1949) is an award-winning television writer who is best known for writing powerful or thought-provoking dramas, often based on real-life events. He only ever penned one episode of Coronation Street - Episode 3115 (31st August 1990) - before moving on to create Cracker in 1993. Jimmy started his writing career in 1982, penning scripts for the-then new Channel 4 soap opera Brookside. His other credits include Hillsborough, The Lakes and The Street.
