While in Mingle Mode, you gain Mingle PP for your pins when you get in range of another DS in WiFi mode; more if the DS is also running TWEWY in Mingle Mode. You also get some MPP at random. Mingling with another TWEWY player also gives the players access to "Mingle shops" containing the clothing and pin inventories of the other player for purchase.
