Three of Eight was a hologram, based on Seven of Nine, that was a character in a holonovel written by The Doctor entitled Photons Be Free. She was a former Borg drone who served aboard the USS Vortex. Three of Eight was sympathetic to the plight of the EMH character. She pleaded with Tulak to let the EMH go, stating that it had rights. When Tulak and Ensign Kymble refused to listen, she attacked them and tried to help the EMH escape. She later pleaded with Captain Jenkins to prevent the EMH character, whom she described as an intelligent individual with a passion for life, from being decompiled. However, her efforts were unsuccessful.
