The Other are an alien consciousness from a distant dimension that are a threat to all beings native to the Marvel universe, having been abducting and experimenting on human beings for years those who came into contact with The Other lost memories of the events but were left with certain familiar feeling about them. In the end it was up to the Silver Surfer to take to arms and stop the alien menace from interfering with mainstream reality - though for how long The Other can be held back, even by the Silver Surfer, is unknown.
