The Foundation was the organization responsible for the funding and management of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry until 1846, when it was disbanded due to the mismanagement of Jervis Klatch. After its dissolution, its oversight duties were transferred to the newly created Board of Governors. Its role as the financial backer of Hogwarts was shifted to the Ministry of Magic.
