Tugboat is Arthur Hobbs' pet dog, whom he has a very emotional attachment to. He has been mentioned and appeared in a few episodes. When Arthur and his wife got divorced, she got custody of Tugboat, which left him devastated. Though it's later seen that by the time Barney and Robin get engaged, Arthur appears to have gotten back custody over Tugboat.
