It was August 3, 1999 and my family had just moved into this colonial house originally built in 1853. It was one of the first subdivision-esque communities in northern New Hampshire at the time and my dad, being the history aficionado he is, fell in love as soon as he saw the memorial emblem on the side of the house. We didn't know what made the house so special aside from its considerable age, but the house itself was quite magnificent so my parents eagerly accepted the rather cheap $550,000 price and we quickly moved in. And then I noticed the extra note on the bottom of the receipt.
