Decoy islands were non-existent islands made up as a false lead for pirates hoping to seek the treasure Big Whoop. Horatio Marley and his crew spread rumours of a number of islands in order to stop would-be adventurers discovering the truth about Big Whoop. Most of the names used rhymed with the real location Dinky Island.
