While journeying through the Lands Beyond, Alexandra Quick encountered a man who "looked just like a medieval knight" in one of the rooms of a stone temple. "He was a beardless man with whitish-blond hair"; he seems to have traveled to the Lands Beyond to treat with Death, and either challenged Death or was challenged by Death to a game of chess. By the time that Quick encountered him, he was one move from being checkmated, and had been seeking an escape for quite some time.
