The Sons of Eorl were an elite Order of Rohan royal knights, founded in the days of the first King of Rohan, Eorl the Young. They were Rohan's foremost protectors, charged with the defence of the king and of the Golden Hall of Meduseld. No mightier warriors could there be found in all the lands of Rohan, for only the boldest knight could earn a place in the Sons of Eorl.
