A number of shuttlecraft from the USS Stargazer were used by the crew to escape from the mortally wounded starship. The shuttlecraft were used as life boats, traveling for weeks through deep space before being picked up by a passing Federation starship. (TNG: "The Battle" ) These shuttles were only mentioned in dialogue.
