Künstlers used a distinctive eye black in combat. Gelda was shown wearing it when she rescued Erica and Yoko, but did not have it applied later in a non-combat setting. Tzykrow, the only other known surviving Künstler, still uses it. Alita subconsciously remembered its use when she fought Makaku in the Scrapyard sewers when without knowing why, she applied it on her face for the first time in years by using sewer muck (dog's blood in the OVA). It is later a feature of her appearance in her subsequent cyborg bodies, including the motorball body, post-motorball body,TUNED Body and her Imaginos Body in Last Order. The TUNED AR Series 2 has eye black as a permanent facial feature.
