A J S Brooks Born c 1868. Married to Louisa Brooks. Lived at 231 Brick Lane. Died 1954 Mayor of Bethnal Green (Progressive) 1931-32 and a vestryman for 6 years, then councillor from c 1902. Continued in his trade of chimney sweep during his period of office. Supporter of the temperance movement, and was responsible for moving the Sunday market from the northern end of Brick Lane.
