Understanding the past allows man to have a greater knowledge of himself. It allows us to know where we came from and why our culture is the way it is. Without a proper understanding of history man would loose his identity. He would be lost in the world without anything to anchor him in reality. Man would have difficulty when interpreting current events without properly knowing why certian things happenned. History is man's nature. And since man's nature has never changed it is of great importance that we know our past. For we can learn from what others have done in similiar circumstances. History helps us to understand our sufferings.
