Mr. Hayter is a minor character in Persuasion. He is married to Mrs. Hayter, Mrs. Musgrove's sister. His eldest son and heir, Charles, is a scholar and a gentleman. He has at least two other daughters, known collectively as the "Miss Hayters". He is a man of some property, but his assets pale in comparison to Mr. Musgrove's. Nevertheless, his property is notable, according to his nephew Charles Musgrove. His main estate, Winthrop, is about 250 acres, and he also has a farm near Taunton. Winthrop is located very near to Uppercross, the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Musgrove.
