The nation of Kania was established in 1750 by freed African-American slaves and radicals that deemed further residence in North America was too dangerous for them. Thus, with the help of the British Empire, they relocated to the island of Kania, named after the leader of the mass movement, Bishop Roger Kane. Under him the island grew into a wealthy trading center which competed with the British dominions of Canada and Newfoundland as fishing powers. By the dawn of the 20th century, Kania's economy had developed into a strong one, supporting the development of new towns and cities throughout the nation.
