The Third Hellenic Republic (Greek: Γʹ Ελληνική Δημοκρατία) was declared in 1935 during the Venizelist coup attempt to remove royalist supporters from the government and the military. Days into the coup Communist supporters led by Nikos Zachariadis gained support in Athens and removed both Venizelist and royalist from power seizing complete control of Greece.
