A civil war enthusiast, Patrick Lawrence brought his wife Blanche and daughter Daisy to Valley Lodge, Virginia, for a camping trip around June 15, 2007. The family visited Reynold's Curios, a local antique store, where Patrick purchased a Regimental Reunion ribbon for himself for $150, and the necklace for Daisy for $40 (after some negotiation with the shop owner.) A week later, Lake seemed to indicate some knowledge of Patrick and his whereabouts. Daisy asked Hale if he knew where her father was, but he only responded "your father is of no concern to us."
