The Vorbataille family on Barrayar controlled the Countship of a District in the southern part of the northern continent. None of the members of the family have been seen in the Vorkosigan Saga, though "Lord Vorbataille", son of the count, was described as having been deeply involved in a Jacksonian smuggling ring. After the Princess Olivia hijacking incident, Miles Vorkosigan took on the investigation and collected sufficient evidence against him to cause him to try to flee Barrayar (and to assassinate Miles's soon-to-be wife as a ploy to throw the investigation into confusion).
