More commonly spelled Fir Bolg, they were one of the races which inhabited Ireland before the Gaelic people arrived. They are distinct from the Fomor and the Tuathe Dé Danaan, other groups which inhabited Ireland in the mythological past. Fir Bold means "men of Builg", "men of bags", or "men of spears". They are believed to represent a historic people who came from Gaul & Britain.
