The New Liverpool Ledger was a newspaper in New Liverpool, Upper California. In the early morning hours, after the theft of The Two Georges, a reporter for the paper woke Colonel Thomas Bushell by telephoning him for an interview. Bushell responded by telling him to "go to hell" and hanging up. Later that morning, the headline in the paper screamed of the theft. A sub-headline indicated that the reporter had been clever enough to link the theft with the murder of "Honest" Dick by himself.
