Sutherland Steading was a Grayson steading, or feudal province. It was one of the first twenty-four steadings founded. In 1039 PD (3142 CE in the Gregorian Calendar used on Grayson) the Conclave of Steadholders ruled that in the absence of any legitimate male children, the eldest illegitimate son of Steadholder Sutherland would be heir to the Steadholdership.
