Automining describes a way worker units harvest resources in StarCraft II. The player can rally the workers to a resource point, and the emerging workers will immediately head to the point and start harvesting. Blizzard introduced automining because "physically moving a worker does not create an interesting choice for the player, because it's the same all the time." Adding automation enabled Blizzard to add a little more complexity to the game compared to its predecessor.
