Florence Eshalomi is a Labour Party politician. A native of the Brixton area of Lambeth, she is the eldest of three girls in a single-parent family. She started work aged 16 and in 2006 she was elected to Lambeth London Borough Council as a councillor for Brixton Hill Ward. She was re-elected in 2010 and 2014. In 2015 the sitting member of the London Assembly for Lambeth and Southwark Constituency, Val Shawcross, announced she was not standing at the next Assembly elections in 2016.
