Prior to playing in Lexington, the franchise was known as the Virginia Lancers (1988-90), Roanoke Valley Rebels (1990-92), Roanoke Valley Rampage (1992-93), Huntsville Blast (1993-94), Tallahassee Tiger Sharks (1994-2001), and Macon Whoopee (2001-02). After departing from Lexington, the Men O' War became the current incarnation of the Utah Grizzlies in West Valley City, Utah. The only player from this franchise who played in the NHL was Mike Smith.
