The U.S.S. Scharnhorst was a Federation starship, Sovereign-class, registry NCC-111255, that served in the Starfleet Marine Corps from 2376 until 2384, and in Starfleet proper from 2384 until its placement on the inactive list in 2401. It was commanded by Major General Anatoliy Britanov in Marine service, and Captain Surev until he was elected Vice-President in 2401; he subsequently resigned his Fleet commission.
