Kullsan and Erethal were ghost soldiers of a ghost army from the time of the Human 'First Empire' which appeared to Kalam Mekhar as he was crossing the 'Holy Desert' of Raraku prior to the final showdown between the Malazan 14th Army and the Army of the Apocalypse. As Kalam (seen as a ghost by Kullsan and Erethal) listened, the two discussed the battle in which they had just fought (against forces of the Emperor Dessimbelackis) as to whether their army had been victorious or not.
