The first one was built in 1929 for dealer Invicta Motors following a request from Margate Corporation for a Crawler tractor for work on the beach. Variants were built with longer 4 roller track frames, swamp tracks and a narrow version for orchard use. One example was fitted with a Ailsa Craig 2 cylinder diesel engine. The Roadless Fordson was the first conversion by Roadless approved by the Ford Motor Company in 1931. Other companies built attachments such as backfill blades by John Allen & Sons Ltd and a grader by Canadian company Wehr
