Zashiki Warashi or parlor children, were a tragic type of rokugani ghosts. They were the lost spirits of dead children, wandering the mortal realm because they did not know where else to go. Their pitiful state was due to improper burial or desecration of their graves, and they were doomed to linger near their corporeal remains. Zashiki warashi resembled small children dressed in shadowy black clothing, wearing blank white masks of painted wood or porcelain. They possessed no legs, simply hovering in midair.
