"Squidface" Giacopelli was a soldier in the United States Army. He served on the Georgia front in the Second Great War in the autumn of 1943. He belonged to a squad of which Armstrong Grimes assumed command after Grimes had recuperated from wounds received in Canada. Giacopelli and Grimes were part of the offensive into Georgia and Alabama. They remained in Hugo, Alabama on occupation duty after the war ended in 1944. Unlike Grimes, Squidface intended to be a life-long member of the Army. The origins of Squidface's colorful nickname are not clear.
