Born into a wealthy family of Ketsueki and Hyūga Clan, Kisui grew up knowing no struggle of his own. However, as being apart of Kirigakure, Kisui has witnessed much of the struggle struck down onto others. After entering the academy, Kisui showed explicit skills, easily being promoted to genin, and sometime later, to Jōnin. After Muzai lost reign, Kisui found himself in a Great Depression. He, himself, looked up to Muzai, despite being so young, with no advanced usage of his kekkei genkai. After Fuyuki took the stance, Kisui grew a deep hate towards Kiri, forcing his parents to move from the village, while he still did work there. He was later selected by Kiri officials, to wield the blade; Kabutowari, being renowned as the Double Helmet Splitter.
