Ada Salter, née Brown (20 July 1866 – 4 December 1942) was a social worker and pacifist. In 1900 she married Dr Alfred Salter. In November 1919 Ada was elected to Bermondsey Borough Council, where Labour gained control for the first time. She held the seat in 1922, and in the same year was elected as the first female mayor of the borough. She sat as a Labour Party member of the London County Council for sixteen years, representing Hackney South from 1925-28 and Bermondsey West from 1928-41. Her husband was also a member of both Bermondsey Council and the LCC.
