Professor Groff was a scientist who helped Dick Tracy in the early days of the detective's career. He was bald and had a thick grey beard. Groff specialized in X-ray technology that helped Tracy during the case of Alec Penn, the forger. Groff later helped discover evidence of Penn's real identity.
