Like all dojutsu the first of the Kyōgan's abilities is being able to see the flow of chakra. The Kyōgan itself gives colour to chakra, allowing the wielder to differentiate them. They are also able to tell if a person is under a genjutsu because the person's chakra flow would be irregular. The Kyōgan's second-most prominent ability grants the user an incredible amount of speed, being able to move faster than a user of Swift Release. The Sharingan also has trouble keeping up with the Kyōgans' speed. This is why Haru explained his trouble keeping up with Mategai's speed.
