The MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) are prehistoric parasitic kaiju that existed during the Permian era alongside Godzilla's species. Two individuals are known to have survived the Permian Extinction event and lay dormant until 1999, when one was discovered in the Phillipines during a mining operation in which two eggs were found, one of which had already hatched. The newly hatched male burrowed its way to Janjira, Japan. After entering Janjira nuclear power plant, it caused the plant to collapse on itself, killing Sandra Brody and several other workers. There it entered a chrysalis and laid dormant for another 15 years.
