Otto was a night watchman at the Connecticut branch of the National Museum. In 1937, he was on duty at the museum when he was knocked out by an unknown intruder. Indiana Jones, whose museum keys had been stolen by Victoria Keith earlier in the evening, arrived and discovered Otto's unconscious body, and then left after hearing a crash caused by Keith.
