Zach was the son of Carly Reynolds who was 6 years old when he first appeared. He was first seen at a soccer game where Steve Sanders was watching Erin Silver. When Zach was getting knocked around on the field, Steve tried to offer him advice, but Carly didn't trust the stranger and ushered Zach away from him. Zach always asked questions about his father, but had never met him. Steve soon began dating his mother and Zach grew fond of Steve over the course of his stay, but Zach moved to Montana with his mother later in the season.
