The politics of the Democratic Republic of Turkey officially takes place within the framework of a federal socialist state based upon that of the former Soviet Union, with the ruling coalition, the United Workers Front (UWF) being the main political organ. Turkey has often been called a single party dictatorship that resembles Stalinist regimes such as those in the former Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc.
