Early concepts of the Arcadia-class Installation were designed to much smaller, and were mostly used for zero-G research purposes, mining, operations overseeing, and security. Later on, with the recongized need for a more multi-purpose installation, stations got considerably larger. When the first of the new Arcadia-class stations was commissioned, Cadden Blackthorne decided to redesignate it an Installation. They typically served as the center of trade and communications in their base star systems.
