Mathias Poe was a Raven and dark wizard who hid out in the wilds of Angel Island. Little is known of his origins, but he was somehow able to obtain the Sword of Acorns after it was lost during Dr. Ivo Robotnik's takeover of the Kingdom of Acorn. Hiding it inside a duplicate of alchemist Damocles the Elder, he used it to augment his own magical abilities until Knuckles the Echidna stumbled upon his lair in his quest to retrieve the Sword. Using its magic, Mathias conjured a golem to battle the Guardian, and Knuckles found himself on the ropes. Fortunately, his Fire Ant mentor Archimedes arrived just in time to surprise Poe and turn the tables, allowing Knuckles to destroy the golem as it lost its power.
