Robert Caflisch was a male human serving in Starfleet in the 23rd century. By the early 2280s Caflisch achieved the rank of admiral and served at Starfleet Command, in a slightly junior position to that of James T. Kirk, and the two were on a first-name basis. After Kirk's demotion to captain, Caflisch found himself Kirk's superior officer, and in 2287 assigned him to investigate a potentially explosive hostage situation on Nimbus III.
