Royal Union Army established in 1951, is the heir of the ancient armies of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, dating back to 1509. It is the branch of Kalmar Union Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest branch of the armed forces. Royal Union Army currently has a professional strength of 219,000, and approximately 40,000 of the soldiers are foreigners.
