When the SDF-1 landed on Mars in 2009, a Catseye Recon was sent out to look over the area. After an explosion was detected, the Recon plane discovered an attack formation of Battlepods, ready to attack the ship (Macross Saga: "Bye-Bye Mars") Later, Vermillion Squadron was assigned to escort Commander Lisa Hayes's craft after the SDF-1 was blinded. The craft was disabled and then captured by a Zentraedi Recovery Pod. (Macross Saga: "Blind Game") The RDF continued to use the aircraft on Earth and in space after the Rain of Death.
