Mission 1-1 is the very first mission which appears in Mario Kart DS. In this mission, Mario is the playable character. Mario has to go through a portion of Figure-8 Circuit, the course it takes place in, and drive through the five numbered gates. It is required for Mario to do it all in order. There are sometimes a couple of mushrooms around the gates to help Mario gain a boost, so a three-star ranking can be obtained easier. If Mario doesn't complete the mission within thirty-five seconds, he loses the mission.
