Colonel Sir Edward Talbot Thackeray VC, KCB (19 October 1836 – 3 September 1927) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. The son of Rev Francis Thackeray and Mary Anne Shakespeare, he was the first cousin of the novelist, William Makepeace Thackeray. He later achieved the rank of colonel. Thackeray retired from the Army in 1888 and in 1898 he went to live in Italy were he spent the rest of his life.
