It contained amenities for diplomats and passengers during long space voyages, and in emergencies could be detached from the cruiser to serve as an escape pod. Salon pods were heavily armored and sealed against all forms of probing or bugging, and so were often used as an ideal location for direct negotiations and diplomacy.
